Slumberland feat. Sainkho Namtchylak

The unusual collaboration of the ingenious electronic composer Jochem Baelus and the Tuvan singer Sainkho Namtchylak is currently doing rounds at prestigious European festivals such as Rewire and CTM, and will also be performing at Alternativa. This project, to be recorded on the album Lightkeeper, bridges genres, continents and generations. Sainkho Namtchylak is said to be the first woman to take up Tuvan overtones singing, despite the resistance of its gatekeepers, and has been enriching them with new approaches for decades. It is a testament to her importance that she was selected for the groundbreaking compilation Deep in the Heart of Tuva. The Belgian musician Jochem Baelus aka Slumberland assembles his own instruments to produce a distinctive, energetic music oscillating somewhere between robotic blues and krautrock, where the beats are truly motorik. Their collaborative performance will entail both meditative drone and punkish cheekiness.
