Re-Patched
RE-Patched is a project that aims to reconnect with the legacy of Polish composer
Bogusław Schaeffer. The collective of artists explores his unorthodox compositional
methods, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western European cultural heritage.
They preserve his legacy and pass it on to younger generations of composers in the
field of experimental and contemporary music.
The concert 'Re-patched' focuses on graphic or open scores by and dedicated to
Schaeffer, a pillar of 20th century music. This concert is part of the above-mentioned
project supported by the Visegrad Fund.
A total of nine compositions will be performed, ranging from the legendary graphic
score 'NonStop' to scores that represent graphics not primarily written as music -
Schaeffer was a polydramatic artist who worked in the visual arts as well as in music
and theatre. This presents an even greater challenge to the performers, expanding the
possibilities for interpretation, improvisation and performance. The ensemble, made up
of young performers from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia,
will present two additional world premieres of compositions dedicated to Schaeffer,
together with expert colleagues.
The aim of the project is to introduce the work of B. Schaeffer to the general public, to
develop new methods of working with graphic scores and to achieve effective
communication between composer, performer and audience. Schaeffer's musical legacy
is a rich collection of graphic scores, acousmatic compositions, and works composed in
'conventional' notation, as well as music theatre. It is a legacy that has yet to be fully
explored and explained, and can be of great help to contemporary performers and
composers today and in the future.
Part of the electronic material was created in the Electronic Studio of Radio Belgrade
with the artistic assistance of Paul Pignon and the studio staff, including Jakov
Munižaba.
